"put that camera phone down - no pictures please - for god's sake, is nowhere private these days?"

But for my prize, maybe you could just give me a bit of advice?I've ended up here after looking for your contact details (Kyle not Bailey) elsewhere on your website (and not wanting to pay $10 to send you a LinkedIn InMail until all other are avenues exhausted). Anyway...

I've been building up a part time event-photo business over the last three years - www.rightplacerighttime.co.uk

In a few weeks I'll be covering an event in Scotland called the Highlander Mountain Marathon - www.highlandermountainmarathon.org.uk - unlike most of the events I cover I think it unlikely that I will make a reasonable return on sales to competitors from this one - but for a variety of reasons I'll be doing it anyway.

However, it occurs to me that a really nice big scenic pic of Scotland's only winter mountain marathon is exactly the sort of thing that might appear in the sports pages of the Telegraph or possibly elsewhere and that if I sold one to them I might actually avoid losing money on the venture.

So, I've just spent the evening scouring the internet trying to find out how to do it. Ideally I thought I might approach the picture desks direct (though I've no track record selling pics to newspapers), then I came across Scoopt.

I do realize, having read your blog that you are no longer involved (but maybe that means you might actually have time to respond to this?). On the other hand I guess that also means that you are in a good positition to offer impartial advice.

So in my position, and on the assumption that I am going to produce some pictures of a quirky but serious and tough sporting event, set against the background of stunning Highland scenery, how should I go about selling(licensing) them?

Thanks,

Jon Brooke
